Travel Options
We offer medically appropriate transport options in various price ranges while ensuring the highest standard of medical care.
Air Ambulance
For patients requiring urgent care or for international repatriation, the fastest response and the most comprehensive medical treatment available is by air ambulance. With doctors, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, pediatric specialists and critical care paramedics on staff, U.S. Air Ambulance can safely transport most patients. Options include Learjet, Gulfstream, King Air and Cessna aircraft that are fully medically equipped and strategically placed to provide world-wide air ambulance transportation.
Typical transport circumstances that call for air ambulances include:
- Relocation to be closer to home to family or health plan coverage
- Cancer treatment
- Specialized cardiac surgery
- Ventilator dependent patients
- Burn, stroke and advanced head and spinal cord injury
- Pediatric and neonatal
- Transfer to an advanced treatment center or rehabilitation facility
- Repatriation to or from a foreign country
- Organ transplants
International Airline Stretcher
International patients may qualify for our commercial airline stretcher service. This option offers a significant cost savings while still providing the highest level of medical care for the patient.
International patients are transported on a stretcher aboard a commercial jet with full advanced life support equipment by our international medical flight crew. Translators are provided if necessary.
Our Flight Coordinators manage all aspects of the flight, including communications between sending and receiving physicians and hospitals, gaining airline medical clearances, obtaining visas, ticketing, ambulances, government agencies, insurance and ground transportation.
Airline Medical Escort
Commercial airline medical escorts offer a lower cost alternative to air ambulance transport for patients who are medically stable and can sit in a first-class seat for the length of the flight. They are accompanied by a registered flight nurse who monitors their condition, administers necessary medication and aid as needed, and assists with hygiene concerns.
As with air ambulance, we provide a complete bedside-to-bedside service including medical evaluation, commercial airline clearance, scheduling, ticketing, ground transportation, coordination between sending and receiving facilities, trip reports and insurance paperwork.
Amtrak Medical Escort
Rail medical escort service is also available. Patients are accompanied by a critical care flight nurse or flight paramedic in a sleeper car on an Amtrak train. As with all of our other service options, rail escort service includes complete bedside-to-bedside service, medical evaluation, commercial clearance, scheduling, ticketing, ground transportation, coordination between sending and receiving facilities and trip report. On board, we provide monitoring equipment, hygienic assistance and all necessary aid including administration of medications.
Long Distance Ground Transportation
Depending upon the condition of the patient and the distance to be traveled, ground transportation might be a viable alternative. U.S. Air Ambulance will transport the patient comfortably in an ambulance, providing skilled medical care at a cost significantly below that of air transportation.
